Ensuring the continuity of regional food production lands
We find ourselves in an era of rising land costs and zoning pressure on local food production.TRFW recognizes the importance to our food web of providing new farmers affordable access to food production land and in giving assistance to current farmers to keep their land and pass it on in a sustainable way.The loss of food lands negatively impacts future livability and food security.TRFWseeks to retire the mindset that farms are separate, independent islands of local food production and revive the idea of a “food web commons".
Ten Rivers Community Food Land Trust mission is to acquire and hold food production lands in perpetuity within a public-benefit Land Trust, while providing farmers with affordable access to those lands through an innovative lease-purchase approach.
Food Land Services will serve as a clearinghouse for information, creative problem solving approaches, and ground-level technical assistance to farmers, private land-owners, and other key actors within the food web.
